Sundays
Cookbook Publication Design/ Branding
A Celebration of the Sunday Roast is a cookbook and history-based publication exploring the cultural significance of the British Sunday roast through the lens of my restaurant concept, Sundays. Inspired by the traditions of the classic Sunday roast, I created Sundays as a contemporary pie shop rooted in this ritual.
The book traces the origins and evolution of the Sunday roast while reinterpreting it through modern pie recipes that reflect the restaurant’s concept. Alongside this, it incorporates elements of the branding I developed for Sundays, visually tying the publication to the identity of the restaurant.By combining historical context, culinary storytelling, and design, the publication presents the Sunday roast as both an enduring tradition and a contemporary dining experience.

The Sunday roast is a well-established tradition, often viewed as static and tied to conventional formats. While widely recognized, it is rarely reexamined through a modern or design-driven perspective. The challenge was to preserve the cultural significance of the tradition while introducing a fresh interpretation that feels relevant to contemporary audiences.

The Sunday roast is rooted in ritual, bringing together food, time, and shared experience. Its core elements, including roasted meats, sides, and communal dining, can be adapted into new formats without losing their meaning. By translating these components into pie-based recipes, the tradition can evolve while maintaining its connection to comfort and familiarity.

A Celebration of the Sunday Roast reinterprets the tradition through a publication that blends history with contemporary culinary design. The book pairs storytelling with pie recipes inspired by classic roast elements, transforming a familiar meal into a modern format. This approach preserves the essence of the tradition while introducing a new way to experience it through both food and design.
